Happy Birthday To ME!

Just a random/fun fact about me:  I spent my entire 27th Birthday in the air flying from Philly to Maputo, Mozambique! The first flight was just over 15 hours and the second was just under 1 hour.  All in all it was a fabulous birthday!

A More Important Frank Talk

Believe it or not my blog "Frank Talk" is NOT the first nor the most significant Frank Talk out there.  I know it's hard to believe but just trust me.

Frank Talk was actually a political journal founded in the early 1980s in South Africa and was the pseudonym that anti-Apartheid activist Stephen Biko used. If you don't know about Steve Biko, you should totally google him.  He was a courageous freedom fighter and helped change the course of South African history.  There also was a movie made about him in the U.S called "Cry Freedom" watch it! Anyways Biko's Frank Talk was used to promote the idea of Black Consciousness, which helped to mobilize South Africans to fight against Apartheid.

So I am sure you can now agree that Biko's Frank Talk was more important than this blog... but at least my Frank Talk is in good company.

Why "Frank Talk" ??

Many of you may wonder why I chose to call this blog "Frank Talk".  Let me provide you will some insight.

a) My name is Frank....and oh what a great name it is.  Well actually my "real name" is Francis.  But for most of my life I have only been called "Francis" on the first day of school when the teacher took attendance. And my father also will call me Francis from time to time.

b) I do love to Talk.  Always been a huge talker, especially during inappropriate times and often about inappropriate things.

c) I am literally a "Frank-Talker". Anyone who knows me or has heard of me, knows that I speak my mind and speak it loud and clear.  I am passionate and verbal and outspoken...it's just part of who I am.  My Gramma (we call her G) has often said that "I haven't had a thought that I have not expressed verbally to someone else".  And it's true... probably why I am doing a blog in the first place.

Frank the "blogger"

So....I leave for the Peace Corps and begin my journey to Mozambique in just 2 days! The next two years (27 months to be exact) as a Peace Corps Volunteer will no doubt be challenging, fun, exciting and of course dramatic! And so after much deliberation I have decided that I will do a blog and you will all be able to have some "Frank Talk".

I will forewarn you now, I don't know how good I will be at blogging.  So don't expect this to be perezhilton, which I am obsessed with, as with all things gossip.  It might be interesting and it might not.  And I might get bored or not be able to post regularly.  Or I might post every hour.  Nevertheless I thought I might as well try blogging.  I mean this might be the only time in my life when blogging is appropriate.

So people...I will try to blog and I hope you will at least try to read some and comment back... that is if you can comment back (I know very little about blogging)
